Rocky Manual Therapy For Women
Empowering Women's Health
Andrea Engi BA, RMT
Welcome to Rocky Manual Therapy for Women! I’m Andrea. I’ve been an RMT for over 15 years working almost exclusively with women. My own journey through pregnancies and motherhood have led me to specialize in visceral manipulation, abdominal therapy and women’s pelvic health.
My background in athletics influences my work by placing a great importance on movement. Recovering from trauma and injury highlighted the influence of functional breathing on all aspects of my own health and this too plays into my treatment planning. I appreciate that my own life, years of clinical experience and seemingly endless hours of study can help women get moving, living and mothering the way they want to. Assisting women on their own healing journeys is a joy. When I’m not in the clinic I can be found hanging out with my family on our off-grid homestead or finding a trail to ride or mountain to climb.

How Can I Help?
Specializing in pregnancy, postpartum and abdominal therapy, Rocky Manual Therapy is pleased to serve you, the women of our community, with a unique skill set so that no matter where you are on your mothering journey, we can help you to understand your body and get you moving the way you want to.

Pregnancy
Manual therapy is incredibly important during pregnancy to get your hips and ribs and body ready for baby. The pain your body experiences in pregnancy tells a story about weakness and imbalance. These things don’t necessarily go away postpartum, though they may hibernate for a while, so specific strength exercises and manual work can help set you up for a stronger postpartum as well as make the remainder of your pregnancy more enjoyable.

Breathing
Breathing is a huge player in the health of our bodies in so many ways. Oxygen and carbon dioxide both play a key role in our body’s function. Knowing how to harness both of these can change digestion, focus, athletic performance, fertility, energy and pain. How you breath and where the air goes is also vitally important for your back, core and pelvic health. We work functional breathing into your manual therapy sessions to maximize both your health and your healing.

Postpartum
You have a beautiful baby and you also have a sore neck, shoulders, back, pelvis, prolapse, and leak at inconvenient times. The postpartum journey can be tough both mentally and emotionally and if it feels like your body is not on your side, the journey can seem impossible. Your body isn’t broken but it may be asking for support. The changes your body makes to support a growing baby can shift how the muscles of your body work together, follow this up with carrying that beautiful baby on your hip while you brush your teeth (if it’s a day you remembered to do that) and snuggle to feed and rock to sleep, and make dinner, and chase after the toddler and woah, all of this can cause considerable pain and discomfort. No matter how postpartum you are, ten days or ten years, come in and let’s get you feeling better, stronger and more like yourself.

Cesarean Birth Scars
Your cesarean birth brought your baby into the world. Now your postpartum recovery deserves some extra attention. You have a beautiful baby to look after and you are recovering from major abdominal surgery. Manual therapy can help with the healing of your scar. I will teach you techniques to help your body in its healing. If your scar is a bit older, it is still possible to loosen tight restrictions that may be causing pain, menstrual discomfort or digestive issues.

Fertility
It starts before you ever start trying. Trauma, illness, stress and all sorts of other things can get our insides all mixed up. Your uterus should be centred and robustly healthy before you try to conceive a baby. It’s worth it to come in for a visit and learn more so you can do more for your own body and the babies you’d like to have.
Abdominal Therapy
Your abdomen is like the Grand Central Station for your body with tracks running through it attaching all the parts together: blood, lymph, nerves and fascia. Stuck places slow the flow of your body systems and can make all things sluggish and cranky. Your guts themselves actually MOVE in order to digest! If things are stuck in your belly and your guts can’t move properly you may have all sorts of digestive symptoms such as gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, IBS, cramping, food sensitivities… the list goes on. Abdominal therapy looks after the mechanical part of your digestion which has the advantage of also supporting the chemical and hormonal aspects of this body function.
Along with digestion, we address the health of your menstrual cycle. Painful, heavy periods, large clots, or smelly blood are all signs that your body needs some extra support. Our in clinic treatments are always most beneficial when you take home what you’ve learned and work on yourself between treatments. You will be given knowledge to head home and look after yourself for a better quality of life long-term.
